Closures for 2025 Thanksgiving Holiday

Convenience Centers 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, & 12 will be closed Thursday, 11/27/25.

 Sites 4, 6, & 8 will be closed Wednesday* - Thursday, 11/26-27/25.  

ALL Sites will reopen Friday, 11/28/25 @ 7 am. 

*These three (3) Sites are always closed on Wednesdays.

 

 

Yard Waste can be taken to the following Convenience Centers: Site 10 - Sims, Site 12 - Landfill Rd, and Site 13 - Hwy 42 East/Landfill.  Please disregard any incorrect information. We apologize for any inconvenience. 

 

Convenience Centers

The County operates 13 Convenience Centers (collection sites) in the Wilson County Solid Waste District.  Incorporated towns and cities are not included in the District.  The Convenience Centers only accept household solid waste produced by residents of the District with a valid User Permit.  Commercial and industrial solid waste is not accepted at the Convenience Centers and should be taken to the Landfill.

User Permits

Access to the Convenience Centers is only provided to customers that display a valid User Permit.

District Permit - $45
District household is charged $45 per year.  This fee is dedicated to providing Convenience Center services.  Fee is listed as a SWAF (Solid Waste Availability Fee) on property owner’s tax bill.  Each district household is entitled to two permits free of charge within a 3-year period.  The current pink Permit was issued January 1, 2023, and is valid until December 31, 2025.  Additional Permits may be purchased at the Solid Waste Services Office for a fee of $45.   Orange, green, yellow, and blue permits are no longer valid.

Temporary Permit - $65
For non-district residents, you may purchase a Temporary Permit that renews annually.  Contact Solid Waste Services Office at 399-2823 to purchase. 

Hours of Operation

  • Monday - Saturday 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.  (Effective 8/1/19:  Rock Ridge, Stantonsburg, and Gardners Convenience Centers will be closed on Wednesdays.)
  • Sunday 1 p.m. - 6 p.m.
  • HOLIDAYS:  Convenience Centers operate according to their holiday schedule.  All Convenience Centers are closed Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Acceptable Items

  • Household garbage
  • Appliances (white goods)
  • Recyclables (Plastic bottles, tubs, jugs, all metal cans, paper, cartons, cardboard, glass bottles, and jars); Cardboard, glass bottles, and jars each have their own dumpsters.
  • Scrap Tires (up to 5 off the rim)
  • Corrugated Cardboard (Please remove all packing material or other contaminants)
  • Electronics (Computers & TVs)
  • Used Cooking Oil
  • Effective 2/1/2021 Glass Bottles and Jars Only recycled separately.  Please place glass bottles and jars in the Yellow Dumpsters at the Sites and the Landfill.  (Please DO NOT place dishes, cups, drinking glasses of any kind, window glass, or windshield glass in the Yellow Dumpsters.) 

Additional Item Information

  • Triple-rinsed and/or pressure-rinsed pesticide containers can be taken to the Elm City, Lucama, and Landfill Road Convenience Centers or to the Landfill.
  • Large bulky items such as mattresses and furniture can be taken to the Convenience Centers located on Landfill Road, Sims, or to the Landfill.  There is no charge for disposal of these materials with a valid User Permit.
  • Yard Waste (limbs, leaves, grass clippings, etc.), can be taken to the Convenience Centers on Landfill Road, Sims, or to the Landfill on Hwy 42 East.  There is no charge for disposal of these materials with a valid User Permit.
  • Construction and Demolition debris or C&D (roofing, boards, siding, bricks, concrete products, carpet, etc.) can be taken to the Wilson County Landfill for disposal.  A tipping fee is charged for these items.  The rate for C&D is $43 per ton.
  • Used Motor Oil, Antifreeze, and Oil Filters can be taken to the Landfill.
  • Gently used, clean, and functional clothing and shoes can be taken to all Convenience Centers and placed in the blue clothing donation bins.
