Wilson County Solid Waste Updates Process for Convenience Center Permits

Post Date:02/05/2026 11:54 AM

Wilson County Solid Waste has updated its convenience center permits for 2026 from a pink hang tag to a new, green static-cling decal. Wilson County residents who live in the unincorporated areas of the county that do not receive trash service should receive their new decals in the mail in the next few days. The following municipalities do receive trash service and their residents will not receive a decal: City of Wilson, Town of Sims, Town of Lucama, Town of Black Creek, Town of Saratoga, Town of Stantonsburg and Town of Elm City.

Previously, Wilson County Solid Waste would mail one permit per number of SWAFs (Solid Waste Availability Fee) attached to a property every three years. For year 2026, the decals will be valid until residents receive new ones. For years 2027 and following, decals will be mailed annually with Tax Invoices from the Wilson County Tax Administration. Each year, the color will change along with the new year the decal is valid for. The decals should be attached to the inside of the windshield in the bottom corner of the driver’s side in order to use the services at any of the 12 Wilson County Convenience Centers. If residents have a second vehicle, attach the second decal as directed. If more decals are needed, call 252-399-2823 to request an additional sheet.

Property owners who maintain homes as rentals are responsible for ensuring their tenants are receiving these decals so they have access to the Convenience Centers to dispose of their household trash. These permits allow Wilson County citizens to carry Household Trash (bagged), Appliances (A/C, Dryer, Heater, Refrigerator, Washer), Batteries (Lead Acid Batteries: Boat, Motorcycle, Vehicle), Cardboard (Clean, Flattened, & ALL Packing Material Removed), Clothing (Bagged), Cooking Oil, Electronics (Computer Equipment, Monitors, & Televisions), Metal (Scrap Metal, Fixtures, Grills, Ladders, Lawn Mowers Emptied of Fluids, Pipes, & Rims), Recycling*, and Tires**

*Recycling: Aluminum Cans, Glass, Paper, Plastic Containers. NO Shredded Paper, NO Plastic Bags, and NO Styrofoam. Do not bag recyclables.

**Tires: Must be off the rim and no more than five tires. More than five tires will need to be carried to the Wilson County Landfill.
